     (After reading Other Worlds by Paul Davies)

 

     My mind seems cosmologically large

Because all things I see — or touch, or hear,

Or merely sense — become absorbed by me.

     The world, its occupants and atmosphere,

The planets and the stars in endless space,

Are linked into my sense; they share my life

And shape my every thought with subtle grace.

     With all existence in myself, how like

A god I seem!. Each thing I know straight claims

Affinity with me; augments my range!.

Such knowledge might intoxicate my brains

Did I not recognise this paradox:

     If I am part of everything, and it of me,

     Then I am wholly lost in that immensity.
